Central America

I have been neglecting this blog for a loong time. So now something to make up for it:

We arrived in Costa rica on the 24th of November and spent one night in San Jose. San Jose is not too ineresting, in my opinion. The next day, however, we left for Puerto Viecho (not sure if i spelled it correctly :))
Puerto Viecho is a little coastal town at the Carribean. Awesome. Some of the photographs I took look just like the ones in catalogs of travel agencies. We stayed there for 2 days in Rocking J´s which is a hostel I can recommend. For the first time in my life, I slept in a hammock :D.
The sky was overcast and it was even slightly raining at times. We rented bikes and rode along the beach (soo good) and looked for the best place to swim. We stopped at a beach with a ship wreck (which I and Mathias climbed, of course) and enjoyed the swim. We stayed for two nights and then decided to leave for volcan Arenal.
We spent the whole day on the road and we got to Tilaran instead of La Fortuna because of the mess in San Jose´s bus terminals. Tilaran was not far though, so the next day we finally got to the volcano. Fun fact: the weather sucks and the volcano is covered in clouds so we cannot see it. We were told people haven´t seen it in the past two weeks... The rainy season still rules here. But (of course), we didn´t stay in the hostel and made a trip to a waterfall, which was awesome! The admission was $10 which seemed to be a bit too much considering that the woman at the cash desk told us the waterfall is 15 metres from the entrance. I guess that was some misunderstanding as this showed to be completely untrue and we had a good time bathing in the waterfall pool and laughing at my ability to look retarded in any picture of me we took.
Another funny story is the one about the magical grandpa that we met at the bus station. He just popped out of nowhere when we got off the bus and started to gives us pieces of advice on pretty much anything. Magically, he also was around when we were looking for a place to eat and his wife (magical granma) appeared when we were withdrawing money from atm, to inform us about the security and related issues...

We also wanted to go to Monteverde but we´re skipping it because of the weather. Fuck that, I really wanted to see it. So tomorrow we should get to Nicaragua. First we want to see the the volcanoes on the Ometepe island. Hopefully these will make up for the Arenal experience.

Costa Rica is a surprisingly expensive country. The food is more expensive than both in the US the Czech Republic. Still, I love it!
