After three years, this week I managed to get to NYC. Twice.
The first time, on Thursday, I went with my photography class to visit some galleries.
Waking up at 6:45 with a hangover wasn't the best start of the day but later I felt only better.
You could probably tell that I'm not the type of guy who's interested in galleries but I think one should try everything. Well, the fact that the trip was for free might have had something to do with it too...
Ok, I really am not a gallery type but there were a couple of things I really liked. For instance, we were allowed into one gallery even before it was officially opened to the public. The artist and my professor knew each other and thanks to that we had the opportunity to see (among others) the controversial Piss christ - the photograph of the crucifix submerged in the author's urine. Because at some exhibition in Australia somebody attacked the photograph with a hammer it was protected by a plastic shield. Up next we visited the Metropolitan Museum and many little galleries. To find them you have to know where to go: you just walk into a skyscraper, take an elevator to the 12th floor and there's a gallery!
Rather more interesting than the galleries was the city itself. Lively, filled with people, cars, chaos and noise.

The second time I went there was with the internationals and it was worth it. We went through Chinatown where we had a tasty lunch. We also visited Little Italy, the Brooklyn Bridge and then we just wandered in the city. At the end we visited the observation deck in the Rockefeller Center. If you're looking for a view over the city I recommend this one. The view is beautiful and you can take pictures of the Empire State Building (naturally, you won't be able to do that from the building itself :D). Apart from that I shot many portraits for my photography class. I already have developed them and they're perfect! :)

Tenhle týden se mi po třech letech podařilo dostat se do NYC. Dokonce dvakrát.
Poprvé, ve čtvrtek, jsem se jel podívat se svou photography class na newyorské galerie. Vstavat s opicí v 6:45 nebyl nejlepší začátek dne, ale pak už bylo jen lépe. Asi byste do mě neřekli, že budu galerijní typ, ale já si myslim, že vyzkoušet se má všechno. No, možná že roli hrálo i to, že trip byl zadarmo...
Každopádně se potvrdilo, že úplně galerijní typ nejsem, i když několik věcí se mi doopravdy líbilo. Dostali jsme se kupříkladu na jednu výstavu ještě předtím, než byla oficiálně otevřena veřejnosti. Pan fotograf se totiž zná s panem profesorem, takže jsme dostali možnost vidět například kontroverzní Piss christ - vyobrazení krucifixu v autorově moči. Jelikož na jedné výstavě v austrálii na snímek někdo zaútočil kladivem, byl tentokrát schovaný za plexisklem. Dále jsme navštívili Metropolitní muzeum a spoustu dalších malinkých galerií. Abyste je našli, musíte přesně vědět, kam jít. To třeba vlezete do nějakého skyscraperu, vyjedete do 12. patra - a jste v galerii.
Zajímavější než galerie ale možná bylo město samo. Živoucí, plné lidí, aut, spěchu a hluku.

Podruhé jsem se do města podíval společně s ostatními internationals a stálo to za to :)
Prošli jsme si Chinatown, kde jsme se bezvadně napapali. Pak jsme prošli Little Italy, Brooklyn Bridge a tak různě se flákali po městě. Nakonec jsme se podívali na vyhlídku v Rockefeller Centre. Pokud chcete na vyhlídku, doporučuju. Vidět je otamtuď bezvadně a navíc můžete pořizovat fotky Empire State Building (což přímo z ní přirozeně nejde:D). Krom toho jsem pořídil spoustu portrétů pro můj úkol z fotografie. Už jsem je i vyvolal a jsou bezva! :)
